Domaine de la Grange des Peres Pays d' Herault Rouge, 2022

Domaine de la Grange des Peres Pays d' Herault Rouge, 2022

Regular price $185.00

Crafted from a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Counoise, the wine combines generous, sun-ripened fruit with a savory, earthy complexity and impressive freshness. Domaine de la Grange des Pères Pays d’Hérault Rouge 2022 is a powerful yet remarkably refined Languedoc red, offering an expressive bouquet of ripe blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark plum, layered with notes of wild Mediterranean herbs, black olive, licorice, cracked pepper, and subtle smoky minerality. Full-bodied and velvety on the palate, it displays beautifully integrated tannins, concentrated dark fruit, and a long, persistent finish accented by spice and garrigue. A cult wine that balances Mediterranean richness with elegance and precision, it will benefit from decanting while its structure continues to evolve in the cellar. Pair with herb-crusted lamb, slow-braised beef, roasted duck, or wild game with a rich jus.

Details

Founded in 1992 by brothers Laurent and Bernard Vaillé, Domaine de la Grange des Pères is an iconic, cult-status estate located in Aniane, in the Languedoc region of southern France. Laurent Vaillé, the visionary force behind the domaine, trained with renowned producers including Jean-Louis Chave in the Northern Rhône, Jean-François Coche-Dury in Burgundy, and Éloi Dürrbach of Domaine de Trévallon in Provence. His pioneering approach helped redefine the potential of the Languedoc, combining Mediterranean grape varieties with Cabernet Sauvignon to create distinctive, age-worthy wines outside traditional appellation rules. The red is produced under the IGP Pays d’Hérault designation, reflecting the estate’s independent philosophy and unconventional blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Counoise. Grown on limestone-rich soils amid the wild garrigue of the Arboussas hills, the wines are celebrated for their concentration, complexity, and remarkable freshness. Following Laurent’s death in 2021, his brother Bernard took over winemaking from the 2022 vintage, continuing the estate’s legacy of precision, individuality, and limited production.
