Made from a combination of Petit Manseng, Gros Manseng. Deep gold with hints of green. The wine has a bright, clear appearance with good viscosity, showcasing its rich character. The nose is expressive and aromatic, with a pronounced bouquet of ripe yellow fruits such as quince, apricot, and peach. These fruity notes are complemented by subtle floral hints of honeysuckle and acacia. There’s a distinct honeyed richness, balanced by a touch of citrus zest and white spice, suggesting some well-integrated oak influence. Full-bodied and beautifully textured, with a harmonious balance of richness and freshness. The fruit flavors of candied citrus, ripe pear, and tropical fruits like pineapple are prominent. The wine’s signature acidity lifts the flavors and adds a refreshing quality. A delicate minerality, along with a hint of beeswax and a touch of ginger, offers complexity and depth. Long and persistent, with a smooth, almost silky finish. The fruit continues to linger, accented by a pleasant sweetness and a touch of spice, leaving a lasting impression. A remarkable and refined example of Jurançon, with elegance and a fine balance between sweetness, acidity, and fruit expression. The 2017 'Crème de Tête' shows the potential for aging, but it is already well-balanced and delightful in its youth now a mere 8 years past vintage. A fantastic wine for pairing with foie gras, blue cheese, or fruit-based desserts.

From our Importer, Lyle Railsback: Along with Henri Jayer, Domaine Huët, and Billecart Salmon, storied importer Robert Chadderdon also discovered the legendary Jurançon of Domaine Barrère, which he began importing under the label of Anne-Marie and her sister Christiane’s father, “Alfred Barrère, Proprietaire Viticulteur.”

Now in her eighth decade, Anne-Marie still tends vines roughly her age, while her 94-year-old maman looks after their kitchen garden. Planted in 1945, their 3-hectare “Clos de la Vierge” is planted exclusively to Gros Manseng to produce fabulous dry Jurançon Sec, while their “Clos Cancaillaü” has both Gros Manseng and Petit Manseng and offers a range of dry and doux bottlings, most notably their “Le Dernier Carré” and “Crème de Tête.”
