WINERY: Domaine Marc Portaz
WINEMAKER: Jean-Marc Portaz
ESTABLISHED: 1980s
REGION: FRANCE • Savoie • Chapareillan
APPELLATION: Savoie AOC
BLEND: 100% Jacquère
VINEYARDS: The ‘Apremont’ vineyard is Savoie’s most renowned plot, at
1,050 feet above sea level, planted on the site of an ancient avalanche. Soils
mix limestone rubble and glacial debris, with clay sub-soils.
AGE OF VINES: 30-50 years
WINEMAKING: Hand-harvested. Pressed full cluster; fermented on
indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled, stainless steel tanks. Aged on
fine lees in tank.
TASTING IMPRESSIONS: Aromas suggest honeysuckle, crushed stones,
white pepper. Complex and tangy; flavors of lime, pear, fresh herbs.
PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: As an aperitif; with classic Savoie dishes such as
fondue or raclette; grilled chicken or white meat
