Meunier

Oft the forgotten middle child of Champagne, Meunier or Pinot Meunier is a black skinned grape that is used to add fruit and vibrancy to many blends in the sparkling wine region. It is also gaining traction in other regions of the world as a still red wine.

In Champagne, Meunier contributes fruit flavors such as raspberry, cherry, and citrus. It also contributes floral aromas in Champagne blends. In still reds from places like Germany and Oregon it adds riper fruit notes like strawberry, cherry, licorice and cola. For example, a still Pinot Meunier can complement lighter dishes such as salads, seafood, and vegetarian cuisine, enhancing the flavors without overpowering them. Additionally, its soft tannins and refreshing acidity make it an excellent match for dishes featuring poultry, pork, or creamy cheeses. Overall, whether enjoyed as part of a Champagne blend or as a still wine, Pinot Meunier adds vibrancy to dining experiences and can enhance a wide range of dishes.
