Collection: Rioja

Located in North Central Spain, the region of Rioja stretches for 100km along the River Ebro. The region of Rioja is further divided into three sub zones, Rioja Alta, Rioja Alavesa and Rioja Oriental. Grapes are grown within the diverse microclimates of the seven valleys formed by the Ebro's tributaries - resulting in a land with a wide range of terroirs and thus, wines.

Rioja is infamous for it's big red wines produced from the local varieties of Tempranillo, Garnacha (Grenache), Carinena, and Graciano as well as beautiful whites made primarily of Viura, Malvasia, Garnacha Blanca and Tempranillo Blanco.

Wines of Rioja are designated as "denominación de origen calificada" or D.O. Ca - the highest category in Spanish wine regulation.  Within the classification, wines are classified as Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva, depending on both their time in barrel and subsequent bottle aging prior to release.  Red wines have a firm and tannic structure, while white wines can vary from light to full bodied.  All of the wines from this region are known for their ability to age gracefully over long periods of time.
