Collection: Tuscany

Tuscany is located among the central Italian wine regions, along the Apennine Mountains. The hills and valleys of the range allow for planting at varying altitudes providing some relief from the hot climate inland, while the vineyards closer to the coast benefit from a cooling sea breeze. In this sense, Tuscany can be seen in three distinct parts: Chianti to the north, the hills and valleys to the south, and the plains along the coast.

Sangiovese is the dominant grape in all three areas of Tuscany, thriving in this region due to its desire for warm climate and late ripening. Within Chianti, elevation and bottle age are the two most distinct differences among the prestigious designations. Regional laws dictate which wines can be labeled Chianti DOCG, Chianti Classico DOCG, Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG, among many other designations. In Southern Tuscany, the best known regions of Montalcino and Montepulciano are distinguished for their more intense and fuller-bodied styles of Sangiovese. Both Brunello di Montalcino DOCG and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG stipulate minimum age requirements and if the Sangiovese may or may not be blended with other varietals. Wines here can also be declassified as Rosso di Montepulciano DOCG or Rosso di Montalcino DOCG. Planted along the coast are the traditional Red Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Syrah, typically blended together with some of the local Italian grapes, resulting in both exquisite and approachable wine.
